In my own attempts to rediscover Athens I find that guides and magazines in Greek all assume a lot of prior knowledge. Specifically, newspaper articles tend to editorialise and make sly references to issues of interior politics which are obviously intended for long-time followers of the Greek political scene, and entertainment guides also assume a familiarity with artists, venues, and locations. I therefore prefer the media directed to foreigners and tourists: Athens News, Athens Insider, and the radio station Kosmos, which plays impeccably selected world music, interspersed with vignettes on foreigners living in Athens, advice on places to visit, and short and to-the-point news in English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, and Arabic.

I have the feeling that Athens likes foreigners, especially those who come with good qualifications, it looks up to them and sports them, so ‘foreign-ness’ is probably a good state to be in.
People in Athens looked at me funny.
