There are a few things to note. Firstly, none of the Star Wars movies are on the list because Star Wars is in a category on its own (and as far as I’m concerned, if you haven’t watched episodes IV-VI you are living in pop-cultural purgatory). Secondly, I really consider the Kill Bills as a single work, so they could have been grouped together, but for convenience I’ll stick to the IMDB convention. Finally, to an extent, this list is biased in favour of films that I would enjoy watching now. I don’t remember much of The Last Starfighter to be able to elaborate on its merits, for example. I would be happy to hear recommendations about films I should watch/add based on this selection.
Oh, and this is the 250th post on fufurasu. For making the post, I win a brand new Mac from our sponsors. No? Well, they should damn well be sponsoring me! Guy Kawasaki’s got nothing on me!

Is shawshank redemption written in invisible pixels or are you just forgetting an awesome film on your list?
The dreamers…. Requiem for a dream…..American beauty …… hmmm … In the mood for love (never seen it..but remember you talking about it)…that’s all I can think of for now.
wow excellent. next time i need ideas on what to watch, i’ll know where to turn to!
Shawshank didn’t make the cut this time. I might feel different about it after I’ve spent some time in jail. In the Mood for Love is on the list as Fa yeung nin wa, but it might not make the list next year. It looks like the films on my list are either feelgood movies, or exceptionally amazing. I don’t feel like that about In the Mood for Love these days.
I am considering the inclusion of Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Oldboy.
By the way, for a less personal take on good films, visit the Wikipedia entry for “Movies that have been considered the greatest ever” at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movies_that_have_been_considered_the_greatest_ever.
