The beginning of two very intense weeks was Nigel’s and Anthony’s “big hair” party in London on the 2nd of November. Anthony’s open-plan place was particularly well-suited for this event and ensured the success of the evening for me. The night also marked the tentative debut of my DJing partnership with Nigel (the D in “DJ” referring to my iPod’s hard disk), which we both enjoyed thoroughly. Amanda’s upcoming party will provide the next opportunity to spin (scroll wheels) again.
Reccuperation ensued. A day later Nigel and I were in Athens, working on the ephemeral structures competition. While torrential rain flooded areas of Athens we were couped up in my house with design, grilled meat, and Scrabble®. Initial misconceptions about this being a holiday as well were quickly shattered as we worked to conjure a proposal out of thin air [dramatic pause] in six days. But, of course, we pulled it off, submitting 10 minutes before the deadline, and with only one all-nighter. I’d post some samples, but it would probably disqualify us for compromising our anonymity.
What made this an interesting exercise was that we brought our studio with us in our luggage. Our presentation panel was produced using an iBook, a VAIO, digital cameras (and a Lomo LC-A), and an iPod. And several rolls of toilet paper, as we both got colds in the process.
We were flying back to the UK late on Tuesday night, so after catching up with sleep on Monday night after the submission, we went on a lomography safari on and around the Acropolis. Luckily, Tuesday was a gloriously sunny and warm day that afforded us some great shots and allowed for lunch outside. A severely delayed EasyJet flight brought us back on Wednesday morning, and I got back in Bath just in time to give a lecture on algorithmic design to the 6th year architects.
Hectic. But enjoyable.
It’s not over. Now I have to produce a portfolio for my US university applications. Very quickly.
