I met Sylvain in my third year in Bath, when he joined our class as an exchange student. Fiona recently alerted me to his current website, showcasing his stunning animations. Do not miss Cystée, which features one of the coolest flying vessel designs I have ever seen, and Lucas-worthy cityscapes. In all, very Japanese (a compliment which I’m sure will please Sylvain).
Just yesterday I was discussing with one my first year students how an architectural education offers and broad and solid base for all design disciplines. Sylvain is using his skills in animation, but there is a huge proportion of architecture school graduates who then go into graphics, industrial design, special effects, moving image production, fashion, advertising, illustration, web design, and so on. I theorise that these fields are more attractive than the building industry in part because of the faster turnaround, greater opportunities for creative freedom, and limited liability afforded by lower production costs.
