It Would Suck
I was doing a bit of serendipitous blog-surfing when I came across an entry briefly explaining genetic algorithms’ iterative exploration process. The explanation was followed by this:
You could probably do this without a computer, but man would that suck.
And that’s all the facts when you come to brass tacks.

so this is what you spend your time doing…OTHER than your thesis…no wonder its going very slowly!!!! but Lucy and i have enjoyed your website and we think its very cool! Fab gave us the vanity fair picture…it was a very odd week! see you soon! ( i think they should ban all traffic on the G. pultney St, and bring back the horses!)-much more fun, if not entirely practical…

That list was called the “minimalist.” What mirth! I must dig it out of my old laptop sometime. It wasn’t particularly exciting though, just a long list of small things, like soap. It was merely an excercise in reduction. I bet what I consider necessary for a comfortable life has changed since then.
