Apple today introduced the eMac, a 1998 iMac lookalike for the education market. Jonathan Ive has done it again, as expected. Although I really like the new flat panel iMac, it is a very contemporary object, almost like an executive’s shiny toy. The eMac, on the other hand, is a more cuddly Mac, with an early 1980s retro design, reminiscent of frogdesign’s Macintosh prototypes from 1982. I would love to have an eMac. Maybe I could pick one up at auction in a couple of years.
