Flames and Teaching and Rushkoff

It took a while for artificial flames (triangular pieces of fabric with a fan and a light under them) to go from “groovy” to tacky. But now, with a handful of instances of ironic usage of artificial flames showing up in mainstream media, they have been well and truly consigned to the realm of the kitsch. About time.

Anyway, teaching web design to the first year students has been very enjoyable so far, although I could do without having to wake up at 8:00 in the morning (blame late night TV). I If you are one of my students, stop reading this and get some work done!

Finally, I just discovered that cultural theorist Douglas Rushkoff has a website and a blog. This guy is highly attuned to current popular culture as well as academic trends and certainly seems to represent the views of educated and/or technology-savvy twenty-somethings. Read his stuff, or, if you lack the patience, check out the sound and video clips.
