I spent a lot of today (national kite-flying and flat bread day, or something like that) commuting and listening to my iPod, and I have to report that the subject matter of all songs falls under three categories: love, unrequited; love, reciprocal; and nonsense.

and money :)
It’s funny you are mentioning this. I was listening to an old song called “Cuando los Angeles Lloran” and it’s about how angels cry and die every time a tree is cut in the Amazon. In which category would it fall? Nonsense? By the way I am quite fond of this song
i thought that day was called ‘clean monday’ :p
oh yep absolutely. i’m here to plug the new daft punk song ‘make love’ !!!! woo woo!!! it’s about love ‘made’. :D
I will defend my taxonomy by quoting Michel Foucault quoting Jorge Luis Borges quoting a fictitious Chinese encyclopedia that divides animals in the following categories: “a) belonging to the Emperor, b) embalmed, c) tame, d) sucking pigs, e) sirens, f) fabulous, g) stray dogs, h) included in the present classification, i) frenzied, j) innumerable, k) drawn with a very fine camelhair brush, l) et cetera, m) having just broken the water pitcher, n) that from a long way off look like flies.”
Needn’t to go that far! I totally agree with your initial ultra plain taxonomy. Even songs like “ El novio de la muerte” (death’s boyfriend) talk about how Spanish Legionnaires would love to die for their country. The title and theme proved so popular that as far as I know they are at least 6 different versions it.
